Watercolors
“”Watercolor is first of all the sincerity and spontaneity of its author, it is the fixation of the ephemeral that we do not retouch and remains as it was felt at a given moment … “.
With great sensitivity, Rolande Hubert-Leveugle translates her impressions into fine and delicate harmonies. Water has been the most present element in her watercolors. The Breton coast and the bay of Mont Saint Michel have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration. But each trip, South of France (Grasse), Ivory Coast (Abidjan), Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain… was the occasion to realize new works. The artist is also known for her watercolors of the famous market of Lices in Rennes.

The gulf of Morbihan
Rolande Hubert-Leveugle developed her talent as a watercolorist in Brittany, her adopted land, and the Gulf of Morbihan holds a special place in her work. She spent long periods there with her great friend Anne-Yves Le Ho who owned a family house in La Trinité-sur-mer and who often accompanied her when she painted..
The vacations and stays in the Gulf of Morbihan allowed her to soak up the special atmosphere of this “little sea” in Southern Brittany..
She keeps nostalgic memories of her days spent at the Spanish Fort in a house of an oyster farm keeper.
The Spanish Fort is a small peninsula at the entrance of the river Loch, in the town of Crac’h, not far from Auray, which enjoys a spectacular view of the Gulf of Morbihan. She was thus ready to go at dawn or at sunset, to plant her easel on the coast...
She also keeps the memory of the inescapable pleasures of this region:
the oysters with a nutty flavor tasted at the oyster farmer’s,
warm scallops on buttered rye bread,
the pommés just out of the bakery’s oven,
the Kouign-amann which leaves your hands sticky with butter and sugar,
the Far Breton with prunes and of course the incomparable buckwheat pancakes (“a complete one” if you please!).

The French Riviera
Rolande Hubert Leveugle has painted the vast majority of her watercolors in Brittany. The watercolors done on the French Riviera, more precisely in Grasse and its region, constitute a happy parenthesis in her production.
Indeed, in the 1980’s she made several stays in Grasse where she spent a lot of time with her sister Yolande and her Swedish brother-in-law, Bertil Malmberg. There, she painted a series of luminous and charming watercolors that testify to her happiness of summer reunions under the burning southern sun..
The gorgeous property in Grasse lent to her by friends, “le Mas des Quatre”, the panoramas of the famous Napoleon road, the “Baie des Anges” near Nice, were her favorite motifs.
