Oil and acrylic works
Rolande Hubert Leveugle’s early works and paintings until the 1960’s were mainly oils on canvas (portraits and landscapes) done with brushes in the figurative style. Having become allergic to turpentine over time, she gradually abandoned oil painting in favor of other mediums such as watercolor and pastel. Nevertheless, some portraits, still life and religious works were created later. She has also restored old paintings for private clients.

The Tertre manor in Chantepie
In the years 1950-1960, Rolande Hubert-Leveugle made a series of paintings representing the Manoir du Tertre located in Chantepie, not far from Petit Thorigné. This beautiful building, whose origin dates back to the very beginning of the 16th century, with its twisted architecture, had a particular attraction for her.
In 1950, she chose to exhibit one of her paintings representing this manor, at the Winter Salon (n° 1117) as well as a painting of the Canal du Nord (n°1118), another place dear to her heart referring to her Douais roots.
We find this motif of the manor added in the background of the portrait of “Nénène Pincemin” who lived in Petit Thorigné.

Vacations in Cancale
The côte d’émeraude, between Saint-Malo and Cancale is beautiful. The beaches have kept their wild character and the panoramas are striking.
In the 60’s it was the favorite place of Rolande Hubert Leveugle and her husband. They spent their summer vacations there with their family.
At that time, Cancale was a charming little Breton port, renowned for its oyster beds and its restaurants where you could taste the famous seafood platters. Tourism was family oriented, nothing to do with the current frequentation.
Rolande and her family walk along the “sentier des douaniers” (current GR 34), swim in the small creeks with pebble beaches… They enjoy flat oysters with an iodized flavor, bought on the oyster market and tasted on the spot, facing the Mont Saint-Michel.
Rolande enjoys these moments of relaxation. But she preciously keeps her painting material at hand and escapes, as soon as she can, to paint these seascapes that she loves so much, as shown in the “souvenir” pictures shot by the couple where she can be seen painting the chapel of l’anse du Verger and the port of Cancale.
