Huile – Portrait du peintre L.P. Robin par Rolande Hubert Leveugle

Louis-Paul Marie Robin was born on July 8, 1920, in Saint-Sever in the Landes region, but it was at the École des Beaux-Arts in Douai that R.H.L. met him in Florent Méreau studio.
He enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Paris three years before R.H.L., in November 1939, in Sabatté’s studio (No. 1274)

At that time, he lived in Paris’s 1st arrondissement before moving to Rue Lecourbe in the 15th.

He was a regular guest of the residents at 11 Rue Daguerre, with whom he enjoyed lively outings in the Paris area. Everyone called him “Loulou.”

Rolande and Loulou lost touch after 1958.
It is difficult to piece together his biography and his career as a painter.

Several paintings by the artist Robin have been acquired by the government, including two landscapes of the Loir-et-Cher region in 1949 and 1960.

This 1960 landscape of the Loir-et-Cher depicts the village and castle of Lavardin, featuring its most remarkable structure: a keep dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, which was extensively remodeled in the 14th and 15th centuries.
This work was purchased by the French government from Louis-Paul Robin in 1960.
It is on loan to the Montbazens town hall.
Many thanks to the Montbazens town hall.

Louis Paul Robin – Paysage du Loir-et-Cher – 1949

Louis-Paul Robin died on May 12, 1997, in Paris.
In a letter addressed to Rolande in 1997, the painter Georges Hugot wrote:

“I learned a few days ago of ‘Loulou’s’ passing, which touched me deeply. Should I regret never having seen him again after so many years? I am, in fact, unable to explain why.
Robin remains with me—that friend, that comrade, so simple yet so sensitive and endearing. I have always greatly admired his work, his unadorned and deeply moving paintings.
Certain paintings left a lasting impression on me:
– The hunting scenes in Montoire
– The banks of the Seine near the institute,
– The countryside in Sologne,
and many other paintings from that same period.
I regret not having seen the rest of his work. I hope to see it one day.”
